The Prince Albert Police Service has released details regarding a major incident that happened on Saturday, April 19.

Police were called to the 800 block of 12th Street West around 7:00 p.m. Saturday in regards to a weapons complaint. The initial report stated four people exited a vehicle and gunshots were fired at a house before the crew got back in the vehicle and drove south. Police would later find out that there were five occupants, meaning one likely stayed in the vehicle to drive away.

Officers arrived on scene and quickly located the vehicle and deployed what police described as ’emergency equipment’, but the vehicle didn’t stop. This lead to a chase through Prince Albert headed north towards RCMP jurisdiction, and the RCMP soon joined the pursuit on Highway 2.

From there, the fleeing vehicle turned around and one of the occupants began firing back at police. The chase went all the way back to the south side of the city on Highway 55 East before police were finally able to box the fleeing vehicle in to make arrests.

No officers were injured in the pursuit.

Police searched the vehicle to find a sawed off .22 caliber rifle, knives, a machete, an air pistol, bear spray, and illicit substances.

Five people were arrested, a 32-year-old man, two 30-year-old men, a 21-year-old man, and a 28-year-old woman. Each of them were issued the following charges:

  • multiple firearms charges
  • discharging a firearm with intent
  • assaulting peace officers
  • resisting peace officers
  • evading police
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

The 32-year-old man received additional charges for:

  • possession of meth and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000

All five were scheduled to have their first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court Monday morning. The four men had their appearances remanded to Thursday, while the woman will have another court appearance on Tuesday.
