The list of accolades for the 2023 first overall draft pick of the Prince Albert Raiders continues to grow.

With the tournament already underway as of Wednesday, Daxon Rudolph is heading to Allen, Texas, to join Team Canada at the U-18 Men’s World Hockey Championships.

This is the second time Rudolph is representing Canada after winning a gold medal at the 2024 U-17 Men’s World Hockey Challenge in November alongside teammate Riley Boychuk and Raiders Interim Head Coach Ryan McDonald, who served as the bench boss during the tournament.

Last year, Rudolph also represented Team Canada at the Youth Olympic Games in U16.

During the regular season, Rudolph put up 7G-34A-41P from the blueline in his first year as a Raider, playing 64 games, where the only four games he missed were for the U-17 Championships. In the playoffs, Rudolph put up 1G-11A-12P in just 11 games played.

On top of that, Rudolph also received a number of awards with the Raiders this season as the Scholastic Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. He also received nominations at the league level for both awards.

The tournament started on Tuesday, but Canada is yet to play their first game. The first action for Team Canada will see them take on Slovakia at 3 p.m. Saskatchewan time today (Thursday).

The tournament will see each team play four round robin games before advancing on to a three round playoff that starts on April 30. Team Canada’s full round robin schedule is as follows, all times are local Saskatchewan time:

  • April 24 vs. Slovakia @ 3 p.m.
  • April 25 vs. Latvia @ 4 p.m.
  • April 27 vs. Finland @ 3 p.m.
  • April 28 vs. Norway @ 3 p.m.

Games can be watched on the IIHF website.
