9th annual Senators Cup gets underway Friday

The 2025 installment of the Prince Albert Grand Council’s (PAGC) Senators Cup tournament is set to go down in Prince Albert this weekend.

Eighteen teams from across the prairies made the trek to Hockey Town North for the tournament, one less than a year ago. Among the teams in this year’s tournament includes 15 from Saskatchewan and three from Manitoba, with the Canoe Lake Young Guns returning as champions.

The prize pool is a tad different this year with winners of the Men’s tournament taking home $30,000, while second place grants a $10,000 prize and third place gets $8,000. Meanwhile in the Women’s bracket, the winners will collect $10,000, second place gets $3,000 and third place receives $2,000.

Play began Friday afternoon at the Art Hauser Centre, with the puck dropping in the first game at 12:15 p.m. between the Round Lake Bears and Cumberland Cree. In a twist this year, some games will also be played at the newly opened Lake Country Leisure Centre in The Yard District. However, all games on Sunday will be played at the Art Hauser Centre with the gold medal game set for 7 p.m.

Admission for the tournament is $20 per day with children under five years old and seniors over 65 getting in for free. Vendors will also be on-site with raffles and prizes to be won.
