Celebration for Gage Grassick’s electric season set for Saturday

It was a great season for Prince Albert’s Gage Grassick.

The fourth-year University of Saskatchewan Huskies basketball player was not only a member of the gold-winning team at the U Sports National Championships, but Grassick herself took home a laundry list of personal awards too.

Grassick was big in the championship game, leading all shooters with 35 points to help her team avenge last year’s silver medal finish against the same team they met in the finals last year, the Carleton Ravens out of Ottawa. Out of her 35 points, Grassick put up 21 from behind the three-point line while adding seven assists and three steals.

Because of her finals performance, Grassick was awarded the Tournament MVP award. She also took home honours as the U Sports National Player of the Year, first Team All-Canadian, U Sports Final 8 Tournament All-Star, Canada West Player of the Year, Canada West First Team All-Star, and the U of S Huskies Female Athlete of the Year awards, all in this season alone.

This year, Grassick also became the first Saskatchewan-born woman in U Sports history to record a triple double, posting 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists in a game on November 12. She’s only the 12th player to do so all time.

Because of this, there is a celebration for Grassick’s achievements this year being hosted in Prince Albert on Saturday, April 26 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. at East Central Public School, the same school Grassick was a part of during her elementary school years.
