An 18-year-old described as a “talented young hockey player” and someone “excited about life” will instead be coming home to Flying Dust First Nation for her funeral on Saturday.

Adyson King was reported missing April 15 after last being seen in the early morning hours that day on River Road. Her body was found the following day.

According to social media posts by her grandmother Gwen King, the young woman was set to graduate high school, was saving up money for university and was looking forward to going to the Calgary Stampede.

King was also interested in a wide-range of topics and issues such as governance, treaties and was an advocate for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP).

In a tribute to their fallen teammate, a GoFundMe campaign was organized by the Waterhen Women’s Hockey team and at the time of this writing, they have surpassed their goal of $15,000 for memorial expenses.

“Adyson was not only our teammate but a part of our extended family, and her loss has affected us all deeply,” reads the post and said no donation was too small.

“Let’s come together as a team—just like Adyson always did—to honour a life that touched so many.”

At this time, the RCMP do not have any updates to share.

Meanwhile, in the social media post, a precautionary message to “look after your friends, never send them off alone” and to let parents and family members know your location was issued.

To her granddaughter, the message was simple: “Addy, we miss you and love you.”

King’s funeral will be on April. 26 at 11 a.m. at Flying Dust Gym, interment will be held at Bear Creek King Cemetery.
