Construction is set to begin soon on a second bridge along Highway 2 in Air Ronge.

According to a project information sheet prepared by the Government of Saskatchewan, Warman Construction Ltd. will begin mobilizing on April 29 with a final completion date set for Oct. 31. The estimated total cost for the project, which will also include grading and the construction of a new surface structure, is $15.8 million.

“Public traffic can expect minor delays and disruption to their normal travel schedules as traffic will be accommodated on the existing bridge while the new bridge is under construction,” the document states.

“The existing bridge will remain fully open with minor traffic signages during the construction of the new bridge as the new bridge will be constructed beside the existing one on new a northbound lane on Highway 2.”

Once the new bridge is constructed, the existing bridge will be demolished.

Construction of the new bridge is part of a larger plan to improve a section of highway between Far Reserve Road and the La Ronge Airport. The plan was announced in 2022 to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
