Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre to install VLTs

In a bid to improve their financial situation, the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre will install some VLT machines. It is also getting a $20,000 boost from the City of Prince Albert.

Members of the golf club first approached city council during the budget process to ask for extra financial help after issues started during the pandemic. They now have a plan to turn their fortunes around.

“We realize we have a lot of issues behind us. We’re trying to move forward,” said current president John Toner.

To help increase their revenues, they asked the province for three VLTs, which arrive next week.

SLGA will monitor the machine’s revenues for a while and then could add three more to the first group.

Most VLTs return about $1,000/week in revenue to the venue they are located in.

The club also plans to make improvements to its deck, and will try to make the accessibility more consistent.

“Over the next few months, you’ll be seeing a lot of changes at [the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre]” said Toner during the Monday, April 28th meeting of the executive committee.

The vote from council, which must happen again during a regular council meeting, was unanimously in favour of a one-time grant of $20,000 to help the club this year.
