Visitors to the City of Melfort’s website will notice a significant difference.

The City has updated the website in the last week or so.

Community Development Coordinator Brelynn Shantz told northeastNOW that as part of the city’s contract with the website provider, the site was eligible for a refresh for no cost.

“A well-designed website keeps residents informed, encourages visitors to explore the city, as well as [attracting] new investment or people looking to relocate to the community,” Shantz said. “The city was looking for a cleaner, more modern look and feel that still represented the Play Melfort brand.”

According to Shantz, the city also wanted to improve accessibility and user experience. The refresh also allowed for the reorganization of some content and a design that is more mobile-friendly.

“The city has adopted more online tools in the past few years like online registration and schedules for our recreation programs, online applications for permits and licenses, online account management and e-billing, as well as an online portal to view public records such as bylaws and policies so we wanted to ensure those tools integrated well into the website.”

Having a website that is more user-friendly and easy-to-navigate is important as more people do online research and use those self-serve tools, said Shantz. An unsatisfied website user is also less likely to return to the site in the future. A site that’s easy to use also means people can get information they need at any time without having to call or email City Hall.

Shantz said improved convenience and more options are also vital as more people sign up for online billing.

“We still have residents that want to pay a bill in-person but there are others that want to pay and manage their accounts online so it’s important to ensure we provide a variety of options that meet those needs,” said Shantz.

She encouraged people to use the Community Events Calendar on the website as a hub to see what’s happening in Melfort. The City is also asking people to sign up for the Business Directory, whether it’s a local business, or sports, culture, and recreation groups. Shantz said they want to ensure all information is up to date.

“Utilizing an online Business Directory in the Community Guide will allow us to easily edit information or add new businesses,” she explained.

The last major website revamp was in 2021.
