Thieves hold up taxi to steal truck at PA business

Apr 29, 2025 | 11:06 AM

Two of three men who forced a taxi driver at gunpoint to take them to a business in Prince Albert’s Crescent Heights neighbourhood, where they then stole another vehicle, are behind bars.

Prince Albert Police and the RCMP are looking for the third man, who ran into the bush after the stolen truck was stopped south of Jan Lake in the northeast part of the province.

The chain of events started at 12:50 am on April 12, when PA Police officers were called to the 2700 Block of 15th Avenue East.

They were told by a male victim that he had been robbed of his truck at gunpoint by three men wearing masks.

Officers then found the stolen vehicle while on patrol as it was approaching the intersection of 6th Avenue East and 15th Street East.

They attempted to pull the driver over but the man drove off at a high speed. Police did not pursue in the interest of public safety.

The robbed driver of the truck was treated by Parkland Ambulance for non life-threatening injuries.

Investigators also learned that four suspects, three men and a woman, had earlier held up a taxi driver with a gun and ordered the driver to take them to the 2700 Block of 15th Avenue east where they then stole the truck at gunpoint.

At about 7 am, RCMP officers out of the Pelican Lake detachment were told of a truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle which looked to be out of fuel.

Officers from Pelican Narrows and the La Ronge Crime Reduction Team responded and found the truck driving slowly along Highway 135, about 10 kms north of the intersection of Highway 106.

When officers activated their emergency lights, the truck stopped but the driver then began repeatedly trying to re-start the engine. After one successful attempt, the driver started backing up so officers positioned their vehicles to prevent the stolen truck from escaping.

Police say neither the driver nor the two other occupants complied with their demands to stop and exit the truck.

The driver and one other man were arrested at the scene but the third man ran off into the nearby woods.

A banned gun and stolen credit cards were later found in the truck.

Police are looking for the man who ran on foot and have not found him yet but have released his photo in an attempt to identify him.

RCMP and Prince Albert Police are looking for this man in connection with an armed robbery. (submitted photo)

Also charged are 21-year-old Kayden McCallum of Pelican Narrows and 27-year-old Jordan Kerfoot of Prince Albert.

Both face varying possession of stolen property charges while McCallum is also charged with flight from a peace officer and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

McCallum is scheduled to make his next appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on May 5 and Kerfoot will appear the following day.
