Cooling unit fire leads to closure of MUCC on Thursday

A fire call at the high school in Melfort has led to the cancellation of classes on Thursday.

Fire Chief Leonard Whitney said a fire at Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate (MUCC) meant school was cancelled for the day.

“The high school had a sprinkler that was activated in one of the freezers due to the cooling unit starting on fire,” Fire Chief Leonard Whitney explained.

He said the school is getting someone to change the sprinkler head and reset the system.

Classes at MUCC were cancelled for the day, and Whitney said he hoped the school would reopen tomorrow.
