A 24-year-old man is facing a number of serious charges after allegedly driving drunk, fleeing from police, and ultimately crashing into a tree stump.

Trevino McCallum appeared Thursday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court and was remanded to Friday.

On Wednesday, at approximately 5 p.m., police were dispatched to a reported impaired driving incident involving a white van in the 1400 block of 10th Ave. E.

While responding, officers located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of 6th Ave. and 15 St. E.

The officer then observed the vehicle approach an amber light and fail to stop. The officer activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle was observed to be swerving before coming to a stop. After the officer approached the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed.

To maintain safety, officers then followed the vehicle from a few blocks away and at around 6:15 p.m., another report came in for an impaired driver in the 1400 block of 6th Ave. E. with the same vehicle description as the first incident.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle shortly after, and it continued to evade police. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after colliding with a tree stump on 29th St. E.

The driver began to flee on foot but was arrested moments later. Upon a search of the vehicle, alcohol was located in the front seat area. Officers attempted to take a breath sample, however the suspect refused.

McCallum’s charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, impaired driving, evading police, and breaching his probation and release order.
