MN-S WR2 Director candidate cites desire for change

May 2, 2025 | 5:22 PM

Citing a desire for change, Lynn Regnier said he could no longer sit by and watch.

The St. Louis resident is one of three people running for Western Region II Regional Director in this month’s Metis Nation-Saskatchewan provincial election. While it’s his first foray into politics, Regnier said he was asked by a number of people in various locales to run.

“We feel we’ve been left out, and so they want me to support the 14 locals and the grassroots people,” he explained.

Regnier has a background in health care and has worked for 27 years at Victoria Hospital as a continuing care assistant, working with patients with acquired brain injury, as well as others in mental health and long-term care.

“I think there has to be a change in our region. There are lots of things that should be done and have not been done,” he explained.

When asked to elaborate, Regnier said there’s been a lack of communication around a new hub type building going up near the Alfred Jenkins. In addition to providing up to 90 child care spaces, Ma Faamii will also provide a space for administrative offices and for Metis citizens to gather and get information about grants or programs.

“They’ve been building those buildings already in Regina, Saskatoon, North Battleford and Yorkton, but our region wasn’t getting any information because our region director doesn’t work with the MN-S,” Regnier said.

The ongoing unrest between the current area director and provincial body has been very public, and Regnier, who said he was not sure why they are bickering, said he fears citizens in the locales are missing out on important opportunities.

“If I’m elected, I think I would be able to work with the MN-S for our region, for things like housing or economic growth,” he said. “You have to be working with the head table instead of not doing very much.”

Regnier also added that with new leadership also comes a new vision to help the region move ahead in a good way.

Also running for Regional Director are the incumbent Sherry McLellan and Shawn Parenteau.

There are five candidates running for MN-S President: Kevin Henry, Bonnie Marwood, Glen McCallum, Lisa McCallum and Naz Chalifou.

Election day is May 24.
