Melfort Fire Department busy with controlled burn, vehicle fire calls

May 3, 2025 | 12:44 PM

The Melfort Fire Department (MFD) has been super bus

the past few days on a number of different calls.

Crews were called out to a controlled burn east of the city Friday afternoon that soon became uncontrolled.

Five rows of bails and a large area of dry grass and bush was burning towards the creek, and the strong wind allowed the fire to jump the creek in one spot.

The fire was contained, and the entire perimeter was wet down so the fire could be battled toward the original source.

Meanwhile, just before 8:30 Saturday morning, crews were called to a vehicle fire south of Melfort.

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames by the time the MFD arrived.

The occupants of the vehicle were able to get out, and there were no injuries.

Crews also responded to fire alarms at Northland Plaza along Saskatchewan Dr just before 10:30 Saturday morning.

The cause was a cooking incident, and the alarms were reset.
