SaskAlert planned for Wednesday

May 5, 2025 | 10:57 AM

Phone users in Saskatchewan can expect a loud noise from their phone or their televisions on Wednesday, just before 2 p.m.

The province will be sending out a test of the emergency alert system as part of Emergency Preparedness Week and in conjunction with a national test.

The province of Saskatchewan is promoting the theme of ‘Be prepared. Know your risks.’ for the week, which runs May 4 to 10.

“Emergency Preparedness Week is the perfect time to create an emergency plan and 72-hour emergency kit for your home and vehicle,” Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod said in a news release.

“By taking these proactive steps, you will be prepared for any type of emergency and help to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones.”

The SPSA is reminding all Saskatchewan residents that they should be ready for any type of emergency.

Three families in James Smith Cree Nation near Melfort found out firsthand over the weekend as a fast grass fire burned their homes.

Other fires have threatened other communities across Central Saskatchewan recently.

Floods and threats to personal safety are also issued by the alert system.

A test of the provincial emergency alert system, SaskAlert, is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 1:55 p.m.

The test alert will appear on television, radio, compatible wireless devices and through the SaskAlert app.

Testing is a standard part of the emergency management process to help ensure that, in times of an emergency or disaster, urgent and public safety warnings can be distributed to the public.
