North Stars alumni, Connor Logan hired as new Head Coach and General Manager

The Battlefords North Stars announced the hiring of Connor Logan this morning as the team’s new Head Coach and General Manager for the upcoming season.

Logan, who played for the North Stars and won a championship with the team during the 2016-17 season said he looks forward to coming back to the community.

“I carried such a sense of pride playing for the North Stars and when the opportunity opened up, it felt right and I’m grateful to get the opportunity to come back to a place that had such an impact on me. So, to step in and be a part of what’s going on and move it in a positive direction. It’s special,” Logan said.

During his time with the North Stars, the Victoria, British Columbia product notched 24 goals and 29 assists in 58 regular season games as well as 12 points in 12 games during the playoffs.

Following his time in the Battlefords, Logan went on to play NCAA Division III at SUNY- Plattsburgh before going to the University of Windsor (USports), where he suited up for two seasons before having his final year cut short due to COVID-19.

His coaching career started in 2022-23 as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCHL). The next season, he joined the Merritt Centennials (BCHL) as an assistant coach, where he helped them to playoff spot for the first time in five seasons. Then this past season, he was the head coach of the Victoria Cougars of the Victoria Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) and led them to a 25-17-6 record before losing out in Game 6 in the first round of playoffs to the league’s top ranked team.

Now, with spring camp just a few weeks away, Logan said he is excited to get to work and start building towards a championship contending team.

“I can’t wait to put on the hard hat and get the work boots on. I want to have a dynamic, fast, aggressive team and that’s the direction we are going. Pressure is a privilege and I’m grateful to be in a situation where we feel this team is close, we have elite level talent and I’m looking forward to pushing this group and adding some players as we have our sights set on being a contender,” he said.

Apart from hard work on the ice, Logan, who is also a strength and conditioning specialist, talked about the importance of putting in work off the ice as well.

“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t going to be a priority for us. Strength and conditioning are a crucial part of the game, being in shape allows to play the game that we want to play. So, taking care of your body, it’s important and I truly believe in it,” he said.

North Stars President, Kyle Kellgren expressed his excitement for the signing and welcomed Logan back to the community.

“We are very excited to announce Connor as our new Head Coach and GM, he was a big part of our championship winning team in 16-17. Connor is gaining coaching experience and is coming here excited to bring another championship to our organization. Current Assistant Coach Owen Lamb was a teammate of his and stall mates as well, so we will have a very easy transition. We welcome Connor and his young family back to the Battlefords,” Kellgren said.
