UPDATED: Complete fire ban issued in North Battleford

May 6, 2025 | 11:23 AM

The City of North Battleford has upgraded its fire ban from earlier this week to a complete fire ban due to a combination of the current Fire Weather Index (FWI) and forecasted high winds in the area.

This ban means that any burning with an open flame is illegal, including approved fire pits. However, the use of external cooking devices, like barbecues and smokers, is permitted.

A Voyent Alert! has also been issued to the city.

Any fires or burns should be reported immediately to the North Battleford Fire Department by calling 9-1-1. Suspicious behaviour can also be reported to the RCMP at 306-446-1720 or Community Safety Officers at 306-445-1775.

The Complete Fire Ban will remain in place until rescinded by officials from the Fire Department.

An immediate fire ban within city limits has been issued, effective today by North Battleford Fire Chief Lindsay Holm, in response to current “extreme” Fire Weather Index (FWI) conditions reported by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA). Maps for the area are updated and available daily on the SPSA website.

Under this fire ban, all open burning outside of approved fire pits is strictly prohibited. However, the use of approved outdoor cooking devices such as barbecues and smokers is still permitted.

Residents are urged to report any unauthorized burning to the North Battleford Fire Department by calling 9-1-1. Suspicious activity should be reported to the RCMP at 306-446-1720 or to Community Safety Officers at 306-445-1775. Information regarding fire permits can be found here.

This fire ban will remain in effect until lifted by the fire department.

A Voyent Alert! has been issued with further details. Residents are encouraged to subscribe to Voyent Alerts! for timely updates via mobile device, home phone, or email by visiting the City of North Battleford’s website.

The North Battleford Fire Department thanks the community for their cooperation and commitment to public safety during this period of increased fire risk.
