A chat with local municipal leaders as Melfort hosts Community Coffee with Council

Melfort’s city council is hosting a Community Coffee with Council event next week.

Everyone is invited to the Kerry Vickar Centre’s Affinity Credit Union Room Wednesday, May 14 at 7 p.m.

Mayor Glenn George told northeastNOW it will be nice to connect with Melfort residents to hear about their thoughts and concerns. He expects some of the topics to come from the informal event to include crime, drugs, and city infrastructure, including potholes.

“I get a phone call once a week, at least, about potholes,” George said.

He said crews have been out doing a cold patch mix to fill the potholes after spring arrived, and once the hot mix is available more permanent repairs will take place.

The City of Humboldt held a similar coffee with council event, and its success helped spur Melfort’s council to do the same.

George said the event will be relaxed and informal.

“There’s not going to be tables, you’re just going to mingle around and talk,” said George. “There’s no program or anything like that.”

The meeting is a way to have a chance to talk with the mayor and members of council, Geroge said, and he looks forward to seeing residents interested in learning more about council and topics that impact the city.
