BYELECTION

Byelection underway in Meadow Lake following councillor’s resignation; advance poll starts today

May 7, 2025 | 10:42 AM

An advance poll opens tonight in Meadow Lake as voters prepare to elect a new city councillor following the resignation of Mike Ferguson in late January.

Ferguson, who was serving his first term on council, stepped down for what the city described as a personal reason.

Three candidates are in the running: former councillor Tom Harrison, and newcomers Dwayne Misko and Anne Duriez.

Nomination packages were posted at Meadow Lake City Hall and remain available for public viewing during regular business hours. Two of the three candidates submitted public profiles outlining their reasons for running.

Residents can cast their ballots early at the Civic Centre, with the advance poll open Wednesday, May 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Election Day is set for Wednesday, May 14, with voting from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Alliance Church.

The city is expected to declare official election results on May 15 at City Hall.

According to the city’s website, voters must present ID showing their name, birthdate and residential address. If the ID lists a P.O. box, a secondary document confirming a physical address is required. Tenants without bills in their name can use a rental agreement that includes their name, address and move-in date. For more information, go on to meadowlake.ca or contact the city at 306-236-3622.

meadowlakeNOW reached out to Ferguson for comment, but he declined.
