The Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation has received a $10,000 donation from the RBC Foundation to support professional development for local nurses and healthcare staff.

The funding arrives during National Nursing Week, running May 12 to 18, and is part of RBC’s national campaign to enhance resiliency and up-skilling across more than 50 Canadian hospitals.

According to a statement issued Wednesday, foundation executive director Leanne Ducommun, the money will help cover certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Trauma Nursing, as well as subscriptions to online learning tools and clinical journals.

“This investment in the continued education of our nurses and frontline staff is a powerful example of corporate leadership that creates lasting impact—not just within hospital walls, but throughout our entire community. This support helps ensure that patients in the Battlefords receive care that is informed, compassionate, and current,” said Ducommun.

The initiative is part of a $7 million commitment from RBC, which also includes a $5 million donation to Windmill Microlending to help 850 internationally-trained doctors recertify and resume their careers in Canada.

RBC Regional President Kim Ulmer said the donation reflects a broader commitment to strengthening Canadian healthcare by supporting those at its core.

“Investing in their development and up-skilling isn’t only a well-deserved commitment to nurses – it’s a commitment to a stronger, healthier Canada.”

National Nursing Week honours Florence Nightingale and highlights the contributions of Canada’s 400,000 nurses.
