Raiders select 11 players during WHL Draft, two during U.S. Priority Draft

Day 2 of the 2025 WHL Draft is officially in the books, signifying the end of the U.S. Priority and Prospects Drafts.

To recap Day 1 on Wednesday, the Prince Albert Raiders selected forward Athens Shingoose with the 16th overall pick in the WHL Prospects Draft.

Originally from Waywayseecapo, Man., Shingoose put up 31G-29A-60P to finish in the top 13 scorers in the CSSHL and was named a First Team All Star last season playing with RHA Winnipeg.

On Day 2 of the Draft, the Raiders got started by picking a name that should be familiar to the people in Prince Albert at 39th overall in the second round. From just down the road in Hague, the Raiders selected defenceman Walker Bergen from the Warman Wildcats.

Bergen had 11G-27A-38P last season in 28 games last season of U15 AA, and as a 14-year-old was called up for two games with the U18 AAA squad.

Walker’s older brother Carter played the last two season with the Prince Albert Mintos.

The Raiders had three picks in round three of the draft, and with the first of them at 52nd overall, they selected forward Tripp Fischer from Lloydminster. Listed at 5’11”, 170 lbs, Fischer was the captain for the Delta Hockey Academy in Delta, B.C. last season in the CSSHL.

In 35 games last year, Fischer put up 29G-27A-56P in just 35 games. He led his team with 6G-3A-9P during the CSSHL Western Championships, leading the entire tournament as his team went on to win the whole thing.

With their second pick of the third round, the Raiders selected goaltender Evan Wandler from Calgary. In 18 games between the pipes for the Calgary Northstars U15 AAA, he posted a record of 14-2-1 (W-L-OTL) with a 0.911 save percentage and a 2.46 save percentage that was top five in the Alberta Elite Hockey League.

He also represented Team Green at the Alberta Cup last year, where he posted a 0.938 save percentage in three games. He’s listed at 5’11, 155 lbs according to his AEHL profile.

The Raiders were up to pick again a few minutes later, and with the 62nd overall pick, P.A. selected forward Brady Filmon from Winnipeg. Filmon played last year with the RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg along with Raiders first round pick Athens Shingoose.

Last year Filmon posted 17G-26A-43P in 32 games last year, along with 34 PIMs. He’s listed at 5’8, 119 lbs.

In round four, with the 84th selection, the Raiders have selected centreman Calder Fraser from Sylvan Lake, Alta. An assistant captain with the Red Deer Rebels U15 AAA team in the AEHL, he’s listed at 5’9″, 145 lbs.

Last year, he played in 28 games and posted 12G-5A-17P.

His father is two-time Stanley Cup champion Colin Fraser, who won a cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and the Los Angeles Kings in 2012. His NHL career spanned from 2007-2015 with stops with the Edmonton Oilers and a single game played with the St. Louis Blues.

Going into round five, the Prince Albert Raiders selected Saskatoon’s Louis Judd with the 108th overall pick. Listed at 5’10”, 161 lbs, Judd played last season with the Saskatoon Stallions U15 AA team, along with two games with the U18 AAA Blazers.

Last year, Judd put up 23G-12A-35P in 16 games.

Also in the fifth round, the Raiders went to Sherwood Park with the 112th overall pick to pick up defenceman Chayse Fedoriuk. The 5’11”, 161 lbs defenceman played with the OHA Edmonton last year.

In U15 last year, he played 35 games and posted 10G-52A-62P to finish second in points amongst defencemen in the CSSHL. He also played six games of U17 this past season, and he posted 1G-3A-4P from the blueline.

After going through rounds six through eight without a pick, the Raiders selected forward Will Owens 186th overall in the ninth round. Originally from Winnipeg, Owens is listed on Elite Prospects at 5’9″, 137 lbs.

He played last season with the Winnipeg Bruins U15 AAA team, where he posted 44G-42A-86P in 32 games last year in the Winnipeg AAA U15 Hockey League.

Shortly after that, the Raiders were up again with pick 200, where they selected Paxton Hale.

Listed at 5’8 and 115 lbs, the Martensville defenceman notched 3G-29A-32P in 28 games with his hometown Marauders U15 AA team.

And with their final pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, Prince Albert picked up Noah Ulry from Olds, Alta.

Playing for the Red Deer Rebels U15 AAA, the 5’10, 157 lbs forward managed 9G-15A-24P in 32 games, while scoring another 4G-2A-6P in 10 playoff games to help his Rebels to a provincial championship.

Day 2 also included the U.S. Priority Draft, where the Raiders used 22nd overall selection to pick forward Gavin Hamelin from the Dallas Stars Elite 14U AAA team.

In 63 games last year, the young forward put up 35G-53A-88P along with 30 PIMs on the season.

The Raiders also had the 25th pick in the U.S. Priority Draft, which they used to select defenceman Mason Schemenauer from the Minnesota Lakers U14 AAA program.

The 14-year-old finished third in team scoring, potting 5G-11A-16P in 17 games this past season.

The Raiders also have the 46th, 107th, and 168th pick in the upcoming CHL Import Draft, which is set for July 2 at 11 a.m. As part of a new policy adopted for the 2025-26 season, CHL clubs will now be permitted to carry up to three import players on their rosters.
