With four locations around Prince Albert, this year’s McHappy Day saw a lot of opportunity to raise money for the local Ronald McDonald House being built in the city. Between all of the restaurants, a total of $28,000.88 was raised through a portion of sales from all McDonald’s items.

Patty Hughes, CEO of the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce, took part in the McHappy Day festivities.

“It’s just the way of a business giving back, right? McDonald’s have their Ronald McDonald House Charities and we’re getting one here in Prince Albert so it’s really critical for us as a community to make sure that we’re supporting it because it is such a great benefit to our children and to the families that are in need.”

While McHappy Day’s main point is to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities, it also gave the chance to showcase one of Prince Albert’s newest fast food chains.

“What’s really exciting about this one, when they built it, it’s all electrical. Every part of it. So it’s a really interesting build that they have here.”

In addition to a portion of proceeds from all food items sold, there was also McDonald’s merchandise, like socks and keychains, for sale.

As for the Ronald McDonald House build itself, it’s located at 25th Street West and south of Victoria Hospital. The ground work has started to prepare for construction of the new facility.

The house will have 12 bedrooms, a smudge room, a communal kitchen, dining room, living room, a play space and a family game room. The Prince Albert location is estimated to see about 494 families a year, saving them over $6 million in out-of-pocket expenses.

Construction on the new facility is expected to finish in early to mid 2026.
