A trio of players with the Prince Albert Mintos organization heard their names during Day 2 of the WHL Prospects Draft.

On Thursday, the team waited and watched as they saw forwards Linden Abercrombie, Beau Anholt, and defenceman Jakob Schmidt get taken in the Draft.

Schmidt was the only player from Prince Albert to be drafted this year, going in the fifth round, 103rd overall to the Vancouver Giants. Standing at 6’0 and 165 lbs, the 15-year-old appeared twice for the Mintos this past season and spent the rest of it with the Prince Albert Pirates in U15 AA, where he scored 31 points (10G-21A) in 29 games. In two playoff games, he added another two goals and two assists.

He signed with the Mintos on March 20.

“Feel honoured to be able to select all these kids and very hopeful that we’re going to have a really good opportunity to have a bunch of these players in a Giants uniform in the near future,” said Giants Director of Player Personnel Greg Batters about the group they drafted.

Abercrombie was the highest drafted Minto this year, getting taken in the fourth round, 90th overall to the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Saskatoon product was a member of the Saskatoon Stallions in U15 AA and had a stellar season, posting 25 goals and 20 assists in 28 games. Additionally, he appeared in seven games at the U18 AAA level this season with the Saskatoon Contacts, netting an assist.

The 6’1, 168 pound force signed with the Mintos for the upcoming season on May 4.

Anholt was taken among the final rounds of the draft and the 6’0, 181 pound centre was selected in the 11th round, 248th overall to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Joining relatives Peter and Matt, Beau played this season with the U15 AA Warman Wildcats and finished 12th in league scoring with 62 points (22G-40A) in 29 games. Like the other Mintos that were drafted, Anholt has some time playing in U18 AAA and appeared in one game for the Green and Gold this season.

The Naicam, Sask. product joined the Mintos on March 17.

The 2025-26 schedule for the Sask. Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) has yet to be announced.
