North Battleford man arrested during traffic stop

On the evening of May 7, 2025, around 7:30 p.m., officers from the Saskatchewan RCMP North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) conducted a traffic stop in North Battleford after noticing a vehicle passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.

When officers approached the vehicle on foot, the male driver exited and confronted them. He was instructed to return to the vehicle and complied. While speaking with the driver, officers noticed illicit cannabis and unstamped tobacco in plain view inside the vehicle.

The driver was informed he was under arrest. He resisted and assaulted one of the officers, leading to a physical struggle before being restrained and taken into custody.

The injured officer was treated at hospital and has since been released. They continue to receive care for non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the incident, 52-year-old Leon Night of North Battleford has been charged with assaulting a police officer (Criminal Code, Section 270(2)) and resisting/obstructing a peace officer (Criminal Code, Section 129(a))

Night is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 23, 2025 (Information #90566976).
