Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP investigating suspicious animal death

May 12, 2025 | 5:46 PM

A deceased animal, believed to be a dog, was discovered in a metal kennel within the site of a grass fire north of Île-à-la-Crosse. Now, RCMP are asking for the public’s help in determining who left it there.

On May 7, fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency were investigating the cause and origin of a grass fire that started the day before. That’s when they discovered the metal kennel with the animal’s body inside. Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP said the kennel was in a bushed, unpopulated area reached by an access road off of Highway #908, approximately 10 kilometres north of the community.

Police are asking for anyone with information, particularly dashcam footage or if they had spotted any vehicles in the area, to contact the Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP at 306-310-RCMP.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
