A 14-year-old Prince Albert youth is facing multiple gun charges following an incident on May 9 in the West Flat neighbourhood.

PA Police learned of a group of three teen boys walking in the area of 13th Street West and and 16th Avenue West just before midnight on May 9.

One of the teens was reportedly carrying a shotgun so officers began to canvas the area looking for the suspects.

Three boys matching the subject description were spotted walking west on the Rotary Trail. While two of them stopped for police, the third was found a short time later but did not stop so a foot pursuit ensued.

An officer with the Canine Unit saw the teen reach for his waistband and saw him holding a gun, so they released the service dog, who made contact.

The suspect again started to pull the gun from his waistband so an officer used their Conducted Energy Weapon, which contacted the teen. He then threw the gun over the fence before officers arrested him.

Parkland Ambulance checked the teen for any injures and police officers found the sawed off shotgun after a search. When he was searched at police cells, officers found ammunition as well.

The teen will make his appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on May 23.
