The North Battleford Beavers kicked off their 2025 baseball season in commanding fashion on Monday night at Beaver Lions Stadium, cruising to a 13-0 shutout win over the Mervin Flyers.

A trio of Beavers led the charge, with Jared Schmidt, Andrew Hudec, and Blair Geering all being named game stars.

Schmidt set the tone on the mound, tossing four scoreless innings and racking up several strikeouts. His performance gave the Beavers the stability they needed and never gave the Flyers a chance to settle in.

“Our sticks really came together, we had a couple of good innings and then in regard to pitching, Jared Schmidt did really good for us. All in all, it was a really good start and it was nice to get the guys together again and get that first win,” said Beavers player and coach, Kyle Gregoire.

On the offensive side, Hudec and Geering lit up the scoreboard. Both players smacked triples and drove in multiple runs, helping fuel several big innings that put the game well out of reach for the Flyers.

The fan support at the local diamond also didn’t go unnoticed.

“We definitely had a good number of fans, it was nice to see some of the minor ball kids come out, it’s always very appreciative to see them come and watch the senior ball team in town and family and friends showed up too, it was great,” Gregoire added.

With the season now underway, the Beavers look to build on their strong start and continue on their journey towards a three-peat. Their next matchup is Thursday, May 14 against the Lloydminster Twins in Lloydminster, followed by another road game against the Standard Hill Lakers on Friday, May 19.
