Aerials gymnast prepares for final competition

Coral Frenette will represent Prince Albert and the province this weekend at a major gymnastics competition in British Columbia.

She’ll join Team Sask at the Garden River Invitational and acknowledges it’s a bittersweet moment.

“This will be my last competition of my career as well, so it’s really special that I get to be on Team Saskatchewan and travel to this incredible venue in Victoria B.C.,” she said.

Provincials were held last weekend and Frenette, along with all the athletes from the Aerials gymnastics club, had a solid outing. Frenette also won the Karen Sills Award for Best Floor Choreography in the Xcel Platinum/Diamond Level.

“Oh my goodness, it means so much. I’ve always wanted to win the choreography award, so I am so, so honoured to have this award in my name.”

While Frenette’s gymnastics coach helps with the technical aspects of the routine and Frenette also receives input from a dance instructor, there is still room for her to incorporate her own personal style.

“So my floor choreography is very inspired by Brooklyn Moors. She’s a Canadian gymnast, and her style is absolutely so beautiful to me.”

After graduation in June, Frenette plans to pursue university and one day become a child psychiatrist.
