Staff at Sask. Pen seize drugs valued over $200,000

Vigilant staff members at the Saskatchewan Pentientiary in Prince Albert have once again found packages containing banned items in the multi-level security jail.

Packages containing methamphetamine, THC, cannabis concentrate and tobacco were seized on May 2 and May 6. The items had an institutional value of $209,000.

Often people on the outside of the prison use drones or even slingshots to get items to inmates inside but this time, how the drugs were found was not specified by Corrections Canada.

CSC said it uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

CSC has also set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates, and staff members working at CSC institutions.

The toll-free number, 1‑866‑780‑3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
