May 15, 2025 | 10:14 AM

A 16-year-old boy is facing charges after a fight in Melfort.

RCMP received a call on Tuesday night about a disturbance on the city’s south side.

A fight involving as many as eight people was reported in the back alley of the 200 block of 2nd Ave. South, where responding officers spotted two boys fighting, and one appeared to have a knife.

The other youth began to flee from police, and officers chased after him. The 16-year-old was arrested soon after and was found to be carrying a can of bear spray.

He now faces two counts of failing to comply with conditions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and resisting a police officer.

He is being held in custody until his next court appearance on May 22.

The male carrying the knife, also 16 years old, was arrested and is also facing charges.
