Lac La Ronge Provincial Park opens for the season

The Lac La Ronge Provincial Park (LLRPP) is now open for campers.

Campgrounds officially opened on Thursday with about 30 reservations across the entire park. Manager Natasha Merriman explained that it is a typical number for the Park, as the May long weekend is never very busy.

She noted staff have been working since the last week in April to get the park ready for the season.

“They have been able to get all of the facilities up and running, water systems and that, so now it’s just working on campsite cleaning, finalization, painting, getting the beaches ready, that sort of thing,” she said.

One highlight is that the new service centre at Nut Point Campground is now open. It is a modern shower facility with conventional, family, and accessible spaces, and it is located across from the former service centre, which has since been torn down.

“The previous one was about 50 years old, so this is a brand new one, and it is a really nice facility. I think the campers will enjoy it,” Merriman said.

The Lac La Ronge Provincial Park is one of the largest in Saskatchewan. It features nearly 100 lakes and more than 30 documented canoe routes. Every year, it draws in tourists from across Canada and beyond.
