Power outage Thursday to affect thousands of customers

UPDATE: Schools will have a 2 p.m. dismissal. Bus service will adjust to the new schedule.

There will be a planned power outage across much of Northern Saskatchewan between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The outage will affect all customers in Waskesiu Lake, Montreal Lake, Timber Bay, Weyakwin, Hall Lake, La Ronge, Air Ronge, Stanley Mission, Grandmothers Bay, Missinipe, and areas north from Waskesiu Lake, and surrounding Grandmother’s Bay.

The outage is due to the activation of a new transmission line 36 kilometers south of La Ronge. Read more about the project online here.

Several businesses and organization in the tri-communities have already announced their intentions to close during those hours. Gordon Denny Community School has advised the public classes will continue as normal, while students at Senator Myles Venne School will be dismissed at 2 p.m.
