After a standout season on the gridiron, North Battleford Comprehensive High School (NBCHS) running back Levi Koenig has earned a spot in the Football Sask. Senior Bowl, set for Sunday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.

The Senior Bowl is a long-running tradition in Saskatchewan football, showcasing the top 80 graduating high school players in a North vs. South format. For athletes like Koenig, it’s an opportunity to represent their region, compete against elite players, and perform in front of high-level scouts and coaches.

Koenig’s selection came after a competitive April training camp, where the province’s top talent gathered for four practices led by seasoned high school and guest coaches. His performance stood out among a deep field of elite players from northern Saskatchewan.

“I’m really happy with the way I performed in tryouts, there are unreal football players in this province, especially in northern Saskatchewan, and it’s an honour to be making the team,” said Koenig.

Now with a chance to turn some heads and show his skill, despite his humble attitude, Koenig is confident in his abilities heading into the big game.

“I trust myself, the way I play. I got picked for a reason, but the guys over there got picked for a reason, too. So, it’s going to be a battle, and I’m excited,” he said.

Apart from a chance to display his abilities, the Senior Bowl will also be the last time Koenig will play on a football field as a high schooler. He took time to reflect on his final high school season, a year that may not have ended with a championship but was still filled with memories.

“You never want it to end, but I’m happy with the group of guys we had and the way the season went. Obviously, it’s not how you want it to end, you don’t want to get eliminated in the first round, but the year itself, you’ll never forget these times in your life, and I was happy to be with the people on the team,” said Koenig.

Even though Koenig is set to play his last football game as a high school senior, the road isn’t coming to an end for him. Next season, Koening has decided to play for the Kamloops Broncos of the Canadian Junior Football League, where he will continue his football journey, not only representing himself but the whole community of the Battlefords.
