Its a chance for some exercise for a very worthy cause.

The Move to Cure Melfort ALS Walk is being held this weekend along Spruce Haven Road.

You can sign up to walk, run, or roll in this year’s event.

Registration opens at 10 am on Saturday, with the 5 km walk to follow.

“You can register online or at Spruce Haven (Park),” said spokesperson Laurie Cropper. “The registration fee is $20, that includes the walk, your t-shirt, and a small donation to the ALS Society.”

Cropper said the fee also includes a hot dog lunch. There will also be some exciting raffle prizes at Saturday’s event.

“This walk is very important for the awareness of ALS, in remembrance of people who we’ve loved and lost, and those that are struggling,” added Cropper.

You can register or donate here.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (better known by its initials ALS), is also commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The New York Yankees slugger was diagnosed with ALS on his 36th birthday, and Gehrig passed away less than two years later.

According to the ALS Saskatchewan website, ALS has no known cure or effective treatment yet and approximately 2,500-3,000 Canadians currently live with the fatal disease.
