Sharps found in Nipawin recycling materials, residents reminded of proper disposal
The Town of Nipawin is asking residents to be careful about the disposal of sharps.
This comes on the heels of a dangerous incident on Thursday, when Nipawin Protective Services responded to an incident at MTN Disposal.
“A broken biohazard container was found mixed in with recycling materials,” a post on the town’s social media page indicated. “This led to five full dumpsters being rerouted to the landfill, as it’s unsafe for recycling to handle contaminated items.”
The post is issuing a reminder to residents that sharps should never be placed in recycling bins. There are several disposal options for sharps and sharps containers, and your pharmacist or doctor can provide information about proper disposal. Many pharmacies offer sharps disposal containers for free or at a low cost.
