It was sunny skies and perfect conditions on Friday for the Battlefords and District Chamber of Commerce annual Business Golf Challenge. This year the event, held at the scenic Jackfish Lodge and Conference Centre, welcomed 148 participants for a day filled with golf and fun.

The event, a staple in the chamber’s calendar, saw local business owners and community members alike come together to network and connect, all while raising essential funds said Chamber chief operating officer, Linda Machniak.

“We do the event every year and all money raised goes towards helping the Chamber operate over the course of the year. It’s great for networking and we do it at the beginning of the season to kick start everybody’s summer and it’s a really great time to get people together and to celebrate the business community,” Machniak said.

The tournament was an 18-hole scramble format with lots of different contests, mini games, and promotions throughout the day. Some of the favourites were the ‘longest drive’, ‘fastest hole in golf, ‘toilet tee-off’ and ‘heckler hole.’

Jack Fish Lodge general manager, Kyle Kellgren said the event was a huge success.

“It’s great for the community, it’s great for us and it’s great for everybody in the Chamber. It’s important to have good quality businesses in and around the Battlefords and to be a part of that, we’re proud of it. The work the Chamber does for the area is very important and it’s just nice for everybody to support it so they can keep doing the things they do,” Kellgren said.

93.3 Beach Radio host, Nic Fransoo, who has attended the event for almost 10 years, was a popular choice to receive the heckling on hole 11. He said he always enjoys the event.

“It’s an awesome way for all these community members and business owners to come together and connect. It’s always a fun time, the weather is beautiful, you get to meet a bunch of new people, and it makes it even better to do it in support of our local Chamber,” Fransoo said.

With another successful tournament in the books, the Battlefords and District Chamber of Commerce Chair, Glenda Rye thanked the community for all the support they receive.

“Events like these are so important, not only because they show the tremendous support we have but also because it gives everyone in the community a chance to get to know the businesses in the area. We thank everyone who came out, it was a great turn out, and we are just so happy that everyone enjoyed themselves. It’s a positive time for business and growth in the Battlefords,” Rye said.
