Kaminski signs three-year contract with Ice Wolves

Kevin Kaminski has signed a three-year contract with the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

“It feels great to be back with the Ice Wolves organization. Signing this new contract adds some security, and after six years here in La Ronge, it truly feels like home,” he said.

“I want to thank the board for having the faith in me to lead this organization. That support means everything.”

Kaminski joined the Ice Wolves in 2019. In his first year behind the bench, he led the team to a dramatic turnaround and was named Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Coach of the Year in 2020. This past season, the Ice Wolves narrowly missed the playoffs by only one point.

With this new extension, the Ice Wolves aim to build on that progress and they’re setting their sights on the playoffs for the upcoming season.

“We’ve worked hard to build a strong culture, and I believe we’ve made some good strides. The guys understand what it takes to compete with the top teams in this league. We’ve had some great battles, and we’re ready to take that next step,” Kaminski remarked.

“We’re so excited for a new era of Ice Wolves hockey. One where we’re not only competitive on the ice, but active and present in the community. The guys are fired up, and we’re ready to build that fan base back up and give La Ronge something to be proud of.”

Before joining the Ice Wolves, Kaminski spent 19 seasons coaching at various levels of professional and junior hockey, gaining a reputation as a tough leader and a coach with a deep understanding of the game.

Kaminski played 139 games in the National Hockey League with the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, and Washington Capitals.

Prior to turning pro, Kaminski played in the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League, where he tallied 240 points and 823 penalty minutes in 183 games.
