The Métis Nation of Saskatchewan has held their election, and it was an extremely close vote in a local race.

In Eastern Region II, incumbent Brent Digness edged Nancy Duns 96 votes to 94 according to unofficial results.

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Rhea Moat told northeastNOW a verification of the vote will take place at the Chief Electoral Office on Thursday.

“If this still indicates that a recount is needed, an application is made to the courts,” she explained in an e-mail. “We will need to wait for a response before we will know the date.”

For the other races, the winners were:

NR1 Laura Burnouf (Acclaimed)

NR2 Leonard Montgrand (re-elected)

NR3 Brennan Merasty

WR2 Sherry Mclennan (re-elected)

WR2A Beverly Fullerton

WR3 Wendy Gervais (re-elected)

ER1 Ryan Carrier (re-elected)

ER2A Darcy Lepowick

ER3 Marg Friesen (re-elected)

President Glen McCallum was re-elected according to the unofficial results.

“We are pleased that the MN–S citizens came out and exercised their right to vote,” said MN–S Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gwen LaFond. “This year we had more registered citizens than ever before and we are pleased to have had more citizens come out to vote than in the previous election. I am extremely proud of our team and thank the citizens for their response.”
