Garbage, detour changes during North Battleford 110th Street construction

May 28, 2025 | 12:34 PM

North Battleford is adjusting garbage collection and traffic detours along 110th Street as construction continues on the 2025 Underground Pipe and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) project.

Residents who were previously told to place bins in back alleys are now being asked to return them to the front of their properties. The city had distributed flyers before the May long weekend with back-alley instructions, but concerns were raised by households that don’t have alley access.

“We’ll just revert back to the original plan of just putting the garbage out front,” said Jaime Garcia, UPAR project manager and engineer-in-training with the city.

“The contractors will take care of moving it, and we’ll make sure that Loraas will be able to access the garbage.”

Traffic detours are also being updated after complaints that drivers were cutting through the Home Hardware parking lot between Pioneer Avenue and 114th Street.

New signs will be posted to limit the lot to customer traffic only. Garcia urged residents to check detour maps and plan ahead.

“We do understand that some people make mistakes, so we would like to strongly encourage everyone to plan their routes,” he said. “If not, we’ll find some other way to reroute traffic.”

Despite the disruptions, the project remains on schedule.

“That’s pretty good news,” Garcia said.

Roughly 260 to 300 feet of cast iron water and sewer mains have been replaced near the bend at Railway Avenue. Milling has passed Sixth Avenue and is expected to reach the mid-900 block of 110th Street by week’s end.

Trenching is scheduled to begin near Kal Tire on 100th Street later this week.

The full project includes underground utility upgrades, sidewalk replacement and road resurfacing between Pioneer Avenue and the mid-900 block of 110th Street. Surface work is expected to begin later in the summer and continue into the fall.

Garcia confirmed property owners can continue to park along adjacent blocks. He encouraged residents to follow updates at cityofnb.ca/upar and reach out to the team at 306-441-0359 with any questions.

The updates were shared Tuesday during the city’s first UPAR information session of the year.
