Sask. Government launches new campaign to bring more physicians into the province

The Government of Saskatchewan, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and the Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency (SHRA), has launched a new physician recruitment campaign under the banner “Saskatchewan is Calling.” This new initiative aims to attract physicians from across Canada and around the world to build fulfilling careers and lives in Saskatchewan communities.

The campaign features firsthand stories from practicing physicians in North Battleford, Saskatoon, and Swift Current, who highlight both their professional environments and personal experiences living in the province. Through video testimonials, they share why they chose Saskatchewan and what makes it a standout place to practice medicine and enjoy life outside of work.

“We want to spread the word amongst physicians from Canada and abroad that Saskatchewan is a great place to put down roots, grow a fulfilling career and enjoy an excellent quality of life in one of our welcoming communities,” said Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill.

“We have heard from many of our physicians, including those featured in this campaign, that Saskatchewan has what it takes to thrive. I encourage everyone to watch and share these inspirational stories,” Cockrill added.

Among the featured physicians is Dr. Tin-Wing Yen, an obstetrician and gynecologist based in North Battleford, who emphasized the province’s wide range of opportunities.

“There are so many opportunities for family physicians and specialists in this province. Join our medical community and experience life under the living skies for yourself!” Dr. Yen said.

The “Saskatchewan is Calling” campaign highlights key benefits that make the province an attractive destination for medical professionals:

  • Competitive compensation and low cost of living
  • Shorter commutes and a comfortable lifestyle
  • Team-based care with a strong physician support network
  • Career advancement opportunities, including academic and leadership roles

Terri Strunk, Chief Executive Officer of SHRA, noted the importance of physician-to-physician storytelling in recruitment efforts.

“We know from our frontline work recruiting health practitioners that peer-to-peer interaction is very important to deepen the interest of a prospective candidate. The stories of these physicians, highlighting why Saskatchewan is such a wonderful place to build a rewarding career in healthcare and enjoy a high quality of life, is very compelling to those who may not know much about our province,” Strunk said.

The campaign launched on May 26 across various digital and physical platforms, including billboards, subway stations, and transit shelters throughout Canada and in targeted U.S. locations.

As the province continues to invest in strengthening its healthcare workforce, “Saskatchewan is Calling” sends a clear message that the land of living skies is also a land of growing opportunity for healthcare professionals seeking balance, community, and career fulfillment.
