The Town of Nipawin is now under a fire ban.

All open-air fires are prohibited.

That includes fire pits, chimneys, and solid fuel appliances, while fireworks are also banned.

The hot, dry, smoky conditions are also expected to stick around for the coming days.

The Air Quality Warning issued for parts of the province’s northeast has expanded to encompass much of east-central Saskatchewan as well.

Meanwhile, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for areas including Melfort, Tisdale and Nipawin.

The statement also includes Prince Albert and stretches to include the Meadow Lake area.

Smoky conditions are expected to persist in those areas as well.
