Tisdale Council approves motion to demolish Town Office

May 30, 2025 | 4:00 PM

The Town of Tisdale is going forward with demolishing the Civic Centre and Town Office.

Town staff were forced to move to the RECPlex in October after mould spore concentrations were found to be above the recommended threshold in both the Legion Room and the basement.

“Council went ahead with the decision because the cost to renovate and address all the issues in the old building would almost be the same cost of building a new office,” explained Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Lovely Magnaye. “The building has reached the end of its useful life.”

The state of the facility was discussed during budget meetings, and the ultimate decision was made at the Town Council meeting on Monday.

Magnaye said the building is currently vacant, with members of Town Office shuffling to the RECPlex. Other user groups, including NewSask Community Futures, have found new locations within Tisdale. The town has been able to secure items within the building, and they are currently in storage.

“The Town purchased [Seacan shipping containers] to temporarily store the contents of the building,” Magnaye explained.

She said the town will soon issue a tender for the demolition of the facility, and there is no timeline as to when the building will be torn down. According to Magnaye, there is no specific time frame as to how long staff will be at the RECPlex, but Council continues to discuss building a new town office.

The Town will be holding a Town Hall Meeting at the RECPlex on Tuesday, June 17, and Magnaye said residents with any questions about the decision to demolish the Town Hall, or any other topic, are welcome to attend.
