Immediate evacuation issued for Timber Bay

Jun 1, 2025 | 12:53 PM

An immediate evacuation has been issued for the Northern Hamlet of Timber Bay as a nearby wildfire is fast approaching.

The emergency alert was issued at 10:56 a.m. Sunday, and advised that the Ditch02 fire is making rapid advancements towards the community, thanks to the hot, dry conditions. The fire sits on the opposite side of Montreal Lake from the hamlet and is currently threatening the village of Weyakwin, which has also been evacuated. As of Sunday, the blaze is 15,000 hectares in size.

Evacuees are told to leave immediately and head to the Meridian Inn and Suites in Regina (3800 Harbour Landing Drive), where members of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) are waiting.

Timber Bay becomes the latest community in Northern Saskatchewan to evacuate due to wildfires, following Sturgeon Landing, Pelican Narrows, Brabant Lake, Creighton, Hall Lake, Denare Beach, and Jan Lake. Many campgrounds and other lakes in parks across the province have also been evacuated, along with the McIlvenna mine site. Meanwhile, the Resort Village of Candle Lake has issued a voluntary evacuation.
