Air Ronge council approves balanced budget

Jun 2, 2025 | 1:10 PM

The Village of Air Ronge has approved a balanced budget for 2025.

The village approved the budget, which has a $523 surplus, at a regular meeting last month. It calls for an increase in property taxes, as well as utility and waste fees. A new bylaw to set the property tax rates will be considered by council at the next meeting.

“This budget was completed as part of a fiscal management plan to prioritize key infrastructure investments and community enhancements, with a focus on long term planning and community development,” an email to larongeNOW from acting-chief administrative officer Tammy McCormick stated.

“It reflects a recommitment by Village of Air Ronge council and staff to the Strategic Plan, guiding improvements to public spaces and the advancement of sustainable infrastructure development in order to support the well-being of residents and visitors in our community.”

The budget calls for $372,000 in capital improvements with $100,000 going towards office upgrades, $90,000 for land resale planning on Cessna Street, $70,000 for security cameras and $50,000 towards planning for a new shop.

In addition, $30,000 will be spent on sidewalks, $16,000 will go towards drainage, and $16,000 is earmarked for a Windows 11 compatible smart board and new council chairs.

Air Ronge council has unsuccessfully sought to install security cameras in Air Ronge for three years. It’s unclear whether they have a viable path to do so now.

larongeNOW reached out to Mayor Julie Baschuk for comment on this article, but she declined to comment. Deputy-Mayor Terry DesRoches directed questions from larongeNOW to McCormick.
