Broadway School update

Broadway School building and land to be sold soon: SHA

A former school site in Melfort that closed almost two decades ago could soon be on the market.

Broadway School closed its doors in 2007 and has largely been dormant since.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority currently owns the property and has indicated interest in selling the site.

“The SHA does own the property commonly known as the Melfort Broadway School. It has been identified as surplus so the SHA plans to sell the building and land as is at some point in the near future,” Saskatchewan Health Authority Communications Lead James Winkel told northeastNOW via email. “The SHA is working closely with SaskBuilds and Procurement to determine next steps, which will be announced by way of a public tender.”

There is no word yet on when the property would go up for sale. The North East School Division sold the school in 2023 for just over $50,000.

The site is along Broadway Avenue and could make an enticing property for a developer. A row of condominiums is located west of the site, and it is in a largely residential area. The Wellness Centre and Hospital are just across the street from Broadway School, which could make it an attractive property for developers looking to build a seniors complex.

When reached by northeastNOW, Melfort City Manager Adam Homes said he had no comment on the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s update on the Braodway School site.
