Four members from the Humboldt Fire Department are in Weyakwin to try to stop the dangerous Ditch02 fire that threatens the community. The SPSA indicated the fire may have recently doubled in size. Residents have been evacuated from the community.

The fire crew has received a generous helping hand from the Humboldt Shoppers Drug Mart, who donated 60 dozen water bottles, electrolytes, and granola bars to help the crews who are fighting the blaze.

“Your support means the world to us — and even more to the hardworking team members pushing through long days in challenging conditions,” the department said via social media. “This donation will go a long way in keeping everyone fueled, hydrated, and healthy. From all of us: THANK YOU!”

Wakaw and Cudworth firefighters are also at Weyakwin. The Wakaw/Hoodoo firefighters are in Weyakwin and surrounding area putting out fires along Highway 2, and a post on their social media Monday said two more firefighters will be joining the fight in Weyakwin.
