UPDATED: Increased police presence on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation

UPDATE: As the RCMP were investigating a traffic complaint, they saw a man come out of a home with a firearm. Officers moved to arrest him and advised him to drop the weapon to which he refused and retreated back into the house.

After getting a warrant, members entered the home and arrested the man. A sawed-off firearm was seized from the house.

A 38-year-old man, Vernon Firingstoney, from the Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation has been charged with resisting a police officer, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, failure to comply with probation order, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Wednesday.

There is increased police presence on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation.

RCMP have disclosed it’s due to an “unfolding event” and there is no danger to the public.
