Prince Albert’s Gage Grassick named U Sports athlete of the year
Gage Grassick, a University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s basketball guard from Prince Albert, has been given the highest honour in Canadian university sports.
On Monday, U Sports announced Grassick was the female recipient of the Lois and Doug Mitchell Athlete of the Year award.
Grassick is the first female athlete from the University of Saskatchewan to win the honour. She just completed her fourth year with the Huskies, and averaged 18.8 points per game in the regular season.
At the national championship tournament in March, Grassick averaged 20.7 points per game. In the final, she scored 34 points against the top-seeded Carelton Ravens, securing the tournament’s MVP award and leading the Huskies to the school’s third national title.
