Nova Scotia man charged with multiple sex offences against a minor in Lloydminster

A 29-year-old man has been charged with multiple sex offences involving a minor.

The complaint dates back to mid-March after Lloydminster RCMP received a complaint that Travis James Birt was sexting images over Snapchat with an underage person, and an investigation found he had travelled to Lloydminster to engage in escalating sexual behaviour.

Birt is originally from PEI but recently moved to Nova Scotia. He also lived in Ontario, where the Snapchat conversations had begun.

The Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) took over and identified Birt, and a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued. The Nova Scotia RCMP later executed the warrant at a home in late May.

He has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

He is in custody after being brought before a justice of the peace and will make his next appearance at Lloydminster Provincial Court on June 9.

Anyone with information or who has been a victim of Birt is asked to contact the Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400, local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
