Northern provincial park access curtailed as wildfires continue

Jun 6, 2025 | 10:34 AM

Three provincial parks in northern Saskatchewan will remain closed or not take any new bookings for the season.

The Narrow Hills Provincial Park, which had two campgrounds burned last month in the Shoe fire, will not re-open this year.

Burned trees and damage to infrastructure are a public safety risk and the ecosystem needs time to re-generate, the SaskParks social media page reported.

Day use may be allowed later this summer.

Lac La Ronge Provincial Park has all of their campgrounds and recreations sites closed at least until June 26 and new bookings have been paused. The nearby Pisew Fire has led to the evacuation of the Town of La Ronge and other communities in the area and destroyed some homes and at least two businesses, including the historic Robertson Trading store.

No new bookings are being taken at the Candle Lake Provincial Park until further notice.

Voluntary cancellations and re-bookings are being offered with no fees until June 26.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is providing an update on the northern wildfire situation this afternoon in Prince Albert.
