Jun 6, 2025 | 1:00 PM

A routine traffic stop in Macklin has led to serious charges for a local man after RCMP uncovered a significant amount of drugs and prohibited items inside a vehicle.

On the evening of May 26, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., Unity RCMP pulled over a truck for speeding in the town of Macklin, Saskatchewan. During the stop, officers arrested the driver, an adult male, after determining he was operating the vehicle while his licence was suspended.

A further search of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of illegal substances, including approximately 232 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 35 grams of suspected cocaine, and about five grams of suspected psilocybin. The substance will be sent to Health Canada for testing. Officers also discovered ammunition and a magazine inside the vehicle.

Police say the suspect was under multiple court-imposed prohibitions related to firearms and ammunition at the time of the stop.

As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Nicholas Desrochers of Macklin has been charged with multiple offences, including:

  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • one count, possession of ammunition while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a prohibited device, Section 91(2), Criminal Code.

Desrochers is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 6, 2025.
